Recent
Workshops
(2012)
by

Carol
Scheftic

As you can see, I have not invested much time building this website:
It's just so much more fun to make and teach metal treats than 'tis to build a website....

The workshops on this page have already come and gone,
but I'd be glad to offer any of them again
if enough folks request them..

Return to Schedule of Upcoming Classes

Unless noted otherwise, all sessions cover the basics of working with metal clay, so beginners are welcome.
Those with some experience will learn new techniques with each project.

December 2011: There are so many other holiday-related activities, I have not scheduled any workshops for this month. (Do let me know if you are interested in an on-demand private lessons. I will still offer those this month, if we can coordinate our schedules!) What follows is the start of my every-evolving schedule for 2012. I hope to see you in a workshop then!

Date Topic Location
Monday, January 9
6:00 to 8:00 pm

Stop by for as much or as little of this time as you'd like!
What is Metal Clay?

Introduction to Bronze and Copper Metal Clays

Learn to work with Hadar's Metal Clay Powders.

Bronze with Copper and Pearls Necklace

This session is unlike most of my workshops in several ways:

This one is intended for those with some prior metal clay experience.

Bring your own tools.
(You can use the same ones as you use for silver-clay work, but you need to clean them thoroughly as you switch between precious metal clays and non-precious ones. Of course, I will have some tools for folks to use too: just let me know what you may need so I can have them cleaned up in advance!)

Bring your own clay too, if you have it.
(Or, just let me know in advance if you want to buy some in class.)

So here's another option: you pick the date!

Because the schedule at my studio can be fairly flexible, let me know if there's something you'd like to learn!

I'm always happy to schedule a private lesson (just you) or semi-private session (you and a friend or two) or a whole new class. Or. once I have several people interested in a particular project or technique, we can sort out a date and time that will work for all!

Metal Clay Western PA
Clay Play Days!

A group of metal clay enthusiasts gathers every-other month at WSCC.

Topics typically include:

  • Show & Tell
    • Bring something you've made for others to admire—we love any kind of hand-made art jewelry (from metal clay or any other medium)!
  • Clay Play time
    • Bring tools and materials and work in the company of others sharing tips and ideas.
    • There will be some extra clay and tools, to buy or share, if you need them.
  • Demonstration / Discussion
    • Each session has some sort of demonstration or lesson. These are "free" to watch; those who participate in a hands-on part pitch in to cover the cost of materials they use.

Come and join us!

Meet in the Trevanion Room!

(On the months in-between,
we gather on the fourth-Monday
at Four Directions Jewelry Studio
in Springdale from 6 to 9 pm.)

Let's Schedule A Time!

Is there another project you'd like to make? Is there another time you'd like to meet? Is there an embellishment you'd like to add to an existing piece? Let me know! I'll be happy to schedule something that meets your needs, or to let you know about any last-minute openings in relevant sessions. Other possibilities include, but are not limited to: bronze bells, miniature boxes, toggle clasps (and other jewelry "findings"), custom rings, bracelets, belt buckles, napkin rings, and more!

Let me know what interests you, and what times you're available. We should be able to work something out!

(Clicking on a workshop topic should open a new window which in some cases
will show a more detailed class decription and/or more sample photos.)

I also offer private lessons and home parties where you can learn about metal clays:
if you can't wait for a regular class, do get in touch and let's see what can be worked out.

Feel free to check out my page that samples recent class offerings
to see if there's something there already that might suit you.
Other classes are possible too, of course: I'm happy to discuss a range of options with you!

The locations where I teach on a fairly regualr (though sometimes intermittent) schedule include:

Convergent Series Studio
Wilkins School Community Center
7604 Charleston Street
Swissvale, PA 15218

This is just off Braddock Avenue in Regent Square, a few blocks north of the Edgewood/Swissvale exit (#77) from the Parkway East (I-376). But it's on a one-way street. Turn west at Sanders (closest) or Hutchinson (which has a light); if you've just come fram the Parkway, that'll be a left turn. Then left onto Milton, and left onto Charleston. (Or you may just want to park on Milton.) Take the stairs up to the second floor. (There's no elevator.)

plus several other great locations, including independent bead shops and several delightful galleries that support local artists:
